Meet The CDL Holders Behind 'Wheels Of Laughter'

Andrew Culp

Before I became the road warrior you see today, I endured the trenches of the restaurant industry. Picture this: I'm slinging subs at a shop where the paychecks were as thin as the sliced meats and the shifts were longer than the lines at lunchtime. It was a culinary nightmare, my friend. The only perk was the occasional free pickle spear.

But then, like a beacon of hope shining through the grease-stained windows, I stumbled upon an ad that promised liberation: "Get your CDL for free, we'll pay you, and you can kiss those sub sandwiches goodbye!" Intrigued and desperate for a change, I heeded the call.

Now, let me tell you, I took to those Motor Coaches like a duck to water. With my background of hauling my dad's big boat around, I figured, "How hard could it be?" Turns out, not hard at all. Six weeks of training later, I emerged victorious with my shiny new CDL Class B in hand.

But fate had other plans, my friend. Just as I was revving up my career, the plandemic slammed the brakes on the bus industry. So, I upgraded to a Class A license and hit the open road in a semi-truck, clocking miles like they were going out of style.

After a stint in the freight world and a nostalgic return to bus driving, I've finally found my sweet spot back in the motor coach realm. With a great company by my side, I'm ready to roll into the sunset, or at least until my retirement fund looks as hefty as my old truck's payload.

I guess you can say that my interest in "trucks" started as a kid watching logging trucks come down Borrego Mesa on their way to the mill, listening to that Jake brake was awesome, and running to the road doing the ol' pull on the air horn, gesture! Then one time my Uncle Philimon let me get behind the wheel of his 1950 GMC 550 Dump truck, I was 12/13 years old when that happened and I'm pretty sure that's when I got the "DRIVING VIRUS 😁Joined the Army at 17 and was in AIT at 18 US ARMY, COMBAT ENGINEERS, 62/J- General construction equipment operator at Ft. Leonard Wood in Missouri where I trained on light construction equipment from air compressors to Dump trucks. I wanted to be a teacher and did the substitute teacher thing and decided....no...I got my CDL and the rest is history, my career as a CDL driver has been anything but boring, from coast-to-coast touring, movie sets, and school activities, I was a part of the Katrina hurricane evacuation, prison runs, contract work with ICE/BORDER PATROL the list goes and the stories continue! Hopefully, we can provide some good stuff for you folks out there pounding that pavement on that long and endless black ribbon !!
